is it zoonotic?

@DiamondSutraPress The other reply is right, however chances are it could be a kidney issue. That's often times a first indicator of kidney issues.

If you have a dog you suspect has distemper, immediately take it to a proper veternarian. There is no good substitute for proper medical care as soon as possible.

Our rescue group had one case of distemper. Luckily our Lola survived but only after $1,200 in meds, 14 days of SubQ IV fluids, 10 days of eating absolutely nothing and 6 months of recovery. She never had seizures (that we saw) nor did she have any blindness or neuro damage occur. She is a very lucky dog and is now in a wonderful adoptive home. At one point the width of her lower back was only the width of the her spinal column. The day she ate her first bite of food was a joyous day for us all.

Dog can die at any point in disease, neuro signs can take up to 16 weeks to surface not all dogs show neuro signs, virus is shed at day 3 and has been known to be shed up to 16 weeks postinfection with or with clinical signs. Survival/ time-line is highly dependent on dog and strain of virus. Mortality can exceed 50% (+/-20%) of dogs who show neuro signs plus additional mortality from secondary infections. Good read on this topic Infectious Disease Management in Shelter Animals Wiley-Blackwell

After the neurological signs show up how long till recovery? I mean how long before you know the dog survived the virus? |
